Scrap Book.
Caption
Two English captions that seem to be added upon re-acquisition of the item and not by the original creator: "A Telegram" underneath a telegram page; and "A Japanese Bride" underneath a photo of a Japanese woman.
Color
Color and BW.
Condition
Relatively stable condition. All pages are intact; some fabric is fraying at the edges and some images' adhesive is loosening from the pages.
Curatorial Note
We have two hypotheses regarding this album:
1. It was potentially created by an English speaker living abroad who collected ephemera from Japanese magazines out of curiosity because of the English captions.
2. It was created by a Japanese person, most likely a woman, before her marriage, and English captions were later added upon re-acquisition of the item.
This information taken from previous students shifts this a bit: "The envelops and telegram receipts have been sent to the Shirakuma (白熊) family in Osaka, with stamps of dates vary around 1910s."

Ca. 1910-1933
Material Note
The cover and back cover of the scrapbook is made of thick cardboard, with metal edges to avoid corner-bending. The pages of the scrapbook were made of textured brown paper, with metal binding. There are various scraps of fabric throughout that might be kimono fabric samples. There are photographs, glossy, and matte postcards, as well as matte magazine illustrations.
Era
Taisho Period
Motif
Fashion, Women, Kimonos, Marriage
Object Note
This scrapbook is interesting because its ephemera ranges from gelatin silver photographs to fabric scraps. It is a privately made album that seems intended for personal use, as opposed to, say, a travel album.
